Nintendo Announces Metroid Prime Trilogy For Wii

05.26.09

metroidprime-sb

One of the must own games in the glory days of the Nintendo system

was Metroid Prime. Any gamer around when the game was new probably played it at one point. Metroid is also one of the first games I recall seeing a commercial on TV for.

Nintendo has announced that it will be bringing the Metroid Prime trilogy to the Wii with all three games on a single disc. The games will have a unified menu that allows players to choose which game they want to play.

The original pair of games is also being revamped to get controls similar to Metroid Prime

: Corruption. All three games let the player aim with the Wii Remote. The games also offer unlockables with rewards like music and artwork.

Virtua Tennis coming to the Wii

02.14.09

By Dave Rudden

February 13, 2009 15:19 PM PST

According to recent reports, Sega will be bringing its critically-acclaimed Virtua Tennis series to the Nintendo Wii.

IGN is reporting that Sega will be bringing the recently-announced Virtua Tennis 2009 to the Wii this May. While the company revealed earlier this month that the famed tennis franchise was getting a sequel on the HD consoles, they apparently saved the Wii for a separate announcement. IGN recieved word from Sega of America’s Vice President of Marketing Sean Ratcliffe, who said "The Virtua Tennis series is perfect for the Wii platform. Sega is excited to be able to bring this uniquely interactive experience to Wii."

Virtua Tennis coming to the Wii

Picture this with more motion control and less definition. Then you’ve got Wii Virtua Tennis.

Sega previously released a mascot-filled version of yellow ball called Sega Superstars Tennis, which received average reviews slightly below the more respected Virtua Tennis series. We’ll see if an all-human cast will lead to better gameplay in just a few months. You can check out the full reveal on IGN.com

THE VERDICT by Dave Rudden Dave Rudden's Avatar

Smart move, Sega. In my opinion, Nintendo’s dropping the ball (pun intended) by not creating a new tennis game to capitalize on Wii Sports Tennis. No, the reheated Mario Power Tennis doesn’t count.

Hack: How to Play DVD Movies on Your Nintendo Wii

01.15.09

Mike Keller

Jan 14, 2009 6:26 pm

This past holiday season, Big N’s little white console dominated the competition once again. Largely due to its family-friendly appeal and relatively low price, Nintendo Wii sales haven’t lost momentum since its 2006 release. However, for hardcore gamers, the Wii has always left a bit to be desired. Last generation graphics, few adult games, weak online community, and lack of DVD movie playback are just a few of the things that have led me and many other twenty-somethings to oft-favor a certain other console. However, with my recent discovery of the Homebrew Channel, I can mark one up for the Wii. I know it’s old news for some, but for those of you who always wished that glowing blue drive could play your games as well as your movies, it’s now easier than ever. Here’s how to it, no warranty voiding mod-chip required.

First of, the things you need are:

•A Wii with system version 3.2.

•A FAT/FAT32 formatted SD card (no bigger than 2GB, as the Wii can’t read SDHC cards).

•An SD card reader/writer (or a USB device that can act as one, such as a digital camera or digital photo frame).

•”Zelda: Twilight Princess” for Wii (random, I know, but you should really own this anyway).

•The “Twilight Hack” (a modified Zelda save game that runs the Homebrew Channel Installer).

•The Homebrew Channel Installer.

•”DVDX,” a Homebrew app needed for the Wii to read DVDs from the drive.

•”MPlayer,” a Wii port of a media player that plays commercial DVDs.

There are essentially two main tasks here: installing the Homebrew Channel, and installing the DVD player. I’ll start with the HBC.

1) Insert your SD card into your reader and copy the “private” directory of the Twilight Hack onto it. Also copy the Homebrew Channel “boot.dol” file.

2) Insert the SD card into your Wii and delete your Zelda save file in the Wii File Manager (start a new game if you don’t already have one). If you care about your saved game, you can first copy it to your SD card and copy it back after you’ve installed HBC.

3) Before inserting Zelda into your Wii, flip it over and take note of the text on the inner ring. It will either read “RVL-RZDE-0A-0” or “RVL-RZDE-0A-2” – both versions will work, but you need to make sure you apply the correct hack (RVL-RZDE-0A-0 requires TwilightHack0, RVL-RZDE-0A-2 requires TwilightHack2, both included in the package).

4) Switch to SD view in your Wii File Manager and copy over your correct version of the hack.

5) Insert your Zelda game disc and start the game. You should see the Twilight Hack save game. Select it to start the game. Once you can control Link, walk backwards (weird, I know) until the Homebrew Channel installer starts. After a minute or two, the HBC will be installed and can be accessed just like any other Channel on your Wii.

Once you have the Homebrew Channel up and running, you can now install Read the rest of this entry »

Wii Games Download – Download Unlimited Games

01.02.09

Curious about Wii Games Download?  Read on so we can take the mystery out of Wii Games Downloads for you.

Ok, so it has been a little over a week since Christmas, are your arms starting to feel better after playing boxing on the wii?  The technology behind the Wii is awesome but for an old guy like me that is out of shape it can sure remind you that you have muscles that you completely forgot about.

And if you got a Wii Fit, how many days was it until you could stand up strait again.  Another reminder that I am not so young anymore and a few pounds around my stomach that should not be there.

But now that the kids have had the Wii for a week are they getting antsy for more games?  The attention span of the kids today seems to be at an all time low.  So they are probably already bored with the games they got for Christmas and wanting more.

The games for the Wii are not cheap either.  Mostly in the $35 to $65 range.  The cost adds up really quick.  But what if there was a way to signup for unlimited game downloads for the Wii.  And what if that price was about the cost of the lower end games?  Does that sound interesting?

I am sure that you are interested now.  And that was not a trick question.  There are a few sites on the internet now that offer unlimited game downloads for the Wii.  These same sites also offer movie downloads, music downloads and more for the Wii.

So I can hear it in your head now, so what is the catch?  We have personally tried out 2 different sites now that offer unlimited downloads and both were great.  No tricks or gotchas.

Both sites offer an annual subscription and a lifetime subscription.  Since we were skeptical too we signed up for just the annual subscription.  Both sites were $39 for the year.  Not a bad deal considering there are literally thousands of games available for download.  And there is no limit on the number of games you can download during your subscription.

We are so excited about the Wii and these cool downloads that are available now that we have created a site just for the Great Wii Downloads.  And we will also occasionally throw in some wii tips and tricks as well.  So are you still curious about Wii Games Download?  If so come and visit us and we will help you the best we can.

Safecracker: a Nintendo Wii Game that will Exercise your Brain

12.29.08

There has been quite a bit of buzz about the Nintendo Wii Fit which is exercise for your body. However, this home gaming console also offers some fabulous games that will exercise your mind. One of them is called SafeCracker. If you are determined to win the game without reviewing any of the cheats it is going to take you quite a while to accomplish this goal.

Make sure you have a memory card ready so you can save the word you have done. There is just no way you are going to complete this particular Wii game in one setting. It doesn’t matter if you have all day to do it either! Safecracker involves a mansion with 35 safes located in various locations throughout it.

If you love to solve puzzles and to play video games, then Safecracker for the Nintendo Wii may be just what you are looking for. You can move it along at a pace you are comfortable with. This game is going to be challenging though and it is going to exercise your mind. However, it will also Read the rest of this entry »

Monster Hunter G Coming to Nintendo Wii

12.24.08

Capcom has now confirmed that in addition to Monster Hunter 3, it will be porting the PS2/PSP game ‘Monster Hunter G’ to Wii early next year. Famitsu magazine has revealed that the game is set for a Spring 2009 release in Japan and comes with two control schemes – the original from the PS2 or the revised PSP system. The game is currently at the 77% completion stage, will come with wide-screen support, six types of weapons and online content (although whether or not a fee will be required for this content is so far unknown).

Some small Monster Hunter 3 details were also revealed, with a new desert location unveiled, as well as a new rock monster. Apparently this is still only 40% complete, so chances are it may well be delayed to be a holiday 2009 game in Japan and perhaps this leaves room for a Monster Hunter 2G port as well during the Summer/Autumn period!

Do you think porting other Monster Hunter games to Wii is a good idea to build a userbase on the system? Or is it merely a cheap cash-in?

Safety and the Nintendo Wii

12.20.08

Playing video games is to be fun and so most people don’t associate safety with it. Yet the makers of the Nintendo Wii have issued some safety warnings for their products. It doesn’t mean that they are are a threat to the well being of those playing such games. However, Nintendo does want to be responsible and let the various safety concerns be known. That way both children and adults can benefit from what is has to offer as much as possible.

Research has shown that a small percentage of the population can experience seizures due to playing various types of video games. This is due to the combination of the graphics that flash on the screen in front of them. This can occur very suddenly even for individuals who have always seemed to be very healthy. It doesn’t matter how old the individual is either.

It is believed these are most likely to occur when the individual is sitting very close to the TV screen. It is also more common when a big screen TV is being used instead of a smaller one. Try to move as far back from the screen as possible while playing. Sitting there for hours can also trigger Read the rest of this entry »

The videogame industry once again proved that it is recession resistant during November.

Software sales increased 10% to $2.91 billion in November, while hardware sales increased 10% to $1.21 billion. In comparison, U.S. retail sales fell 1.8% in November.

On the software side, the big winners were Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) and Activision Blizzard (ATVI). Activision Blizzard had three titles in the top 10 – Call of Duty: World at War (for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) and Guitar Hero World Tour for Nintendo Wii – selling nearly 2.5 million units. Use the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console to Access Older Games you Love to Play

12.12.08

Many of us love to play video games but we tend to become sad when we see the older games we once really loved to play are a thing of the past. The newer games are more in depth and geared towards the younger generations in most regards. However, the days of the early Mario Brothers games and others aren’t lost for owners of the Nintendo Wii. You can also start digging those tunnels once again with Dig Dug.

One of the most popular early Nintendo games was Donkey Kong. I remember spending hours playing that one! If you did as well then this is certainly one you will want to download from the Nintendo Wii virtual console. There are plenty of versions too including Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong Country.

With the virtual console offered by Nintendo Wii you can have access to them again. You can access the games that were originally made for Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and the Sega Genesis. It is also very simple for you to Read the rest of this entry »
