At GDC last week Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata gave a keynote speech in which detailed a new approach to storage issues for the Nintendo Wii. Over on the official Nintendo website, news of the Will Menu 4.0 system has arrived, which states that the update is now available to users of the console via the online system update option.
Wii Menu 4.0 introduces vastly improved SD Card support and allows the use of SDHC Cards to be used (essentially giving a memory cap of 32GB to the system.) 4.0 also allows gamers to launch and store WiiWare titles, Virtual Console games and full Wii channels on SD/SDHC cards.
An auto manage feature also instructs the Wii to automatically move content such as channels and games to an SD/SDHC card when the console’s system memory reaches capacity. And finally, the update allows titles to be downloaded from the Wii Shop to be directly stored on the SD/SDHC card device.
Memory storage has long be a bugbear of Wii users, but now it looks as though these issues are over.
